TreeHouse Foods, Inc. has issued a recall for Great Value Chicken Broth sold in Walmart stores across nine U.S. states due to concerns over potential packaging issues that could affect the product’s sterility. If the packaging fails, the broth could become contaminated, leading to spoilage.
The recall, announced on December 11, 2024, has been classified as a “Class II” risk by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) as of January 21, 2025. A “Class II” recall indicates that while exposure to the affected product could result in temporary or reversible health issues, the risk of serious health consequences is considered low.
According to the FDA, if the product packaging is compromised, bacteria, molds, or yeasts could contaminate the broth, making it unsafe to consume. While spoilage may sometimes be noticeable by changes in appearance, taste, or texture, in some cases, the contamination might not be obvious, posing potential health risks.
