A blast of Arctic air is set to bring a sharp drop in temperatures to South-Central Texas, beginning Sunday night and extending into midweek. This cold front is expected to bring freezing conditions, including possible snow, sleet, and hazardous travel.

The National Weather Service (NWS) in Austin-San Antonio is forecasting that sub-freezing temperatures will hit the region, with overnight lows dipping into the mid-20s from late Sunday through Wednesday morning. Wind chills will make it feel even colder, potentially dropping to the teens. To prepare, residents are advised to take precautions to protect people, pets, pipes, and plants from the freezing weather.

A wintry mix of snow, sleet, and freezing rain is likely to develop Monday night into Tuesday morning. There is a 20-50% chance of snow accumulation up to half an inch, and a 20-40% chance of freezing rain, particularly along major roadways such as I-35 and U.S. Route 281. Travel disruptions are expected, especially during the Monday evening and Tuesday morning commutes, so motorists should exercise caution.

After this cold snap, milder weather is expected to return on Friday and Saturday, with highs in the mid-60s to low 70s and partly sunny skies. However, temperatures will take another dive Saturday night into Sunday, with lows near freezing and daytime highs struggling to reach the 40s.
