Target has issued a series of recalls for five food items sold across the United States due to potential safety hazards. These recalls come after FDA alerts and have affected various products, including snacks, wraps, and fresh produce.
1. Lay’s Classic Potato Chips Recall
On December 18, 2024, Target stores recalled Lay’s Classic Party Sized bags of potato chips. The recall followed an FDA announcement from Frito-Lay, which reported that some 13 oz. bags might contain undeclared milk, posing a serious risk to individuals with milk allergies. This specific recall affected products sold in Oregon and Washington. Frito-Lay confirmed that no other Lay’s products were involved.
2. Made Good Granola Bars Recall
Target also recalled several flavors of Made Good Granola Bars, distributed across the U.S. and Canada, on December 9, 2024. The recall was initiated after the discovery of a metal fragment that might have been present in the bars, posing a potential safety risk. The affected flavors include Chocolate Chip, Mixed Berry, Strawberry, Cookies & Crème, Chocolate Banana, and several others. Riverside Natural Foods, the manufacturer, quickly addressed the issue by removing the metal-bristle brush from the manufacturing process and implementing enhanced safety measures.
3. Crazy Fresh Turkey Havarti Wheat Wrap Recall
Target recalled Crazy Fresh Turkey Havarti Wheat Wraps from Russ Davis Wholesale on December 2, 2024, due to the inclusion of cucumbers potentially contaminated with Salmonella. These wraps were sold in retail outlets across several states, including Iowa, Illinois, Kansas, and others. Although no illnesses have been reported, the recall was issued as a precautionary measure.
4. Sun Fed Cucumbers Recall
Sun Fed Produce voluntarily recalled cucumbers on November 28, 2024, after an FDA investigation indicated a possible Salmonella contamination. The cucumbers, distributed across a range of states, were sold in Target stores. Sun Fed emphasized their commitment to food safety and worked closely with authorities to trace the source of contamination, which was linked to a specific farm.
5. Good & Gather Organic Carrots Recall
On November 16, 2024, Target recalled Good & Gather Organic Carrots produced by Grimmway Farms. This recall stemmed from concerns that the carrots could be contaminated with E. coli O121:H19, potentially linked to a nationwide outbreak. While the FDA’s investigation has ended and no positive test results were found at the facility, the recall was issued as a precaution after 39 reported illnesses and one death. Target stores in the U.S., Puerto Rico, and Canada were affected.
