Murfreesboro – A woman critically injured in a tragic accident at a Murfreesboro steakhouse parking lot has passed away, according to the Murfreesboro Police Department.
The incident occurred on December 23 in the parking lot of Longhorn Steakhouse. The victim, identified as 61-year-old Cathy Pendergrass from Virginia, succumbed to her injuries five days later on December 28 at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
Police said the accident unfolded when a woman in the driver’s seat of a CRV was backing out of a parking space to allow a man in a wheelchair, who had recently suffered a stroke, to enter the passenger seat. While being helped into the vehicle by another woman, the man inadvertently pressed the gas pedal, causing the vehicle to reverse uncontrollably. The CRV struck a nearby car, pinning the woman assisting the man between the two vehicles.
The vehicle continued to reverse, crashing into two more cars before finally stopping. The Murfreesboro Police Department’s Fatal Accident Crash Team (FACT) is investigating the incident.
