The Social Security Administration (SSA) has confirmed that the next SSDI payment will be made on January 8, 2025. To qualify for Disability Insurance, individuals must have a qualifying disability and have worked enough years to pay sufficient taxes into the SSA system. Not all workers are eligible; you must meet specific criteria and be approved by the SSA.
For the January 8 payment, eligibility depends on your birthdate. If you were born between the 1st and 10th of the month, you will receive your payment on this date, provided you:
- Are still eligible for SSDI
- Began collecting SSDI after April 30, 1997
- Are not an SSI recipient
For those with birthdays from the 11th to the 20th, payments will be made on January 15, 2025. If your birthday falls after the 20th, expect your payment on January 22.

Average SSDI Payment Amounts
The average monthly SSDI payment is approximately $1,580. However, payments can vary based on your work history and earnings. Low earners who worked for fewer years may receive less, while those who earned higher wages can receive up to $4,018 in 2025, following the COLA increase. This higher amount is achievable if you worked for 35 years in jobs covered by SSA and earned the taxable maximum during those years.
The age at which you file for SSDI can also impact the amount you receive. Additionally, your spouse and children may qualify for benefits based on your record, increasing your overall monthly payment. If you are receiving a lower SSDI amount, you may also qualify for Supplemental Security Income (SSI) and Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits to supplement your income.
