Kyren Lacy, a former wide receiver for LSU, is facing charges of negligent homicide and felony hit-and-run in connection with a deadly crash on December 17 in Louisiana, according to state police. The incident resulted in one fatality and two injuries.

The crash occurred just two days before Lacy shared a farewell message to LSU on social media, and he did not play in LSU’s 44-31 victory over Baylor in the Texas Bowl on December 31.

According to police documents obtained by WAFB, Lacy was speeding and illegally passing vehicles by crossing the centerline in a no-passing zone. In an attempt to avoid a collision with Lacy’s vehicle, a truck swerved, causing the vehicle behind it to crash head-on into another vehicle traveling in the opposite direction.

After the collision, Lacy drove around the scene and fled south on LA Hwy 20 without stopping to provide assistance, call for emergency services, or report his involvement in the crash, as stated in the police documents.

Lacy, who led LSU with nine touchdown receptions in 2024, was a key player for the Tigers, finishing second on the team in catches (58) and receiving yards (884). As of January 2025, Lacy was ranked as the No. 110 overall player and No. 13 receiver in CBS Sports’ NFL Draft Prospect Rankings. A native of Thibodaux, Louisiana, Lacy began his college career at Louisiana before transferring to LSU in 2022, where he developed into a vital part of the team’s receiving corps.
