In 2025, many taxpayers across the United States are eager to receive extra funds, and there’s good news for those who may still be eligible for past stimulus payments. The IRS has confirmed that it will send special stimulus checks to taxpayers who filed a 2021 tax return but overlooked claiming the Recovery Rebate Credit. This announcement has caught many by surprise, as it means some individuals may still receive financial relief from 2021.
While most taxpayers have already received their stimulus checks, a small group may not have realized they qualified for the credit. Fortunately, the IRS has been proactive in identifying these individuals, and if you qualify but missed out on claiming the credit, you could still be in line for a payment. Here’s what you need to know about when these payments will be sent and how to claim yours.

When Will the IRS Send Out the Stimulus Checks?
The IRS began issuing special stimulus checks of up to $1,400 in December 2024 to individuals who filed a 2021 tax return and qualified for the Recovery Rebate Credit, but failed to claim it. These payments are set to continue through late January 2025.
If you haven’t filed your 2021 tax return yet, there’s still time to do so. The IRS is encouraging those who may be eligible to submit their returns as soon as possible. The deadline to file your 2021 tax return and claim the Recovery Rebate Credit is April 15, 2025. If you’re uncertain about your eligibility, it may be helpful to consult a tax professional to ensure you don’t miss out on these payments.
Alaska’s Permanent Fund Dividend (PFD) Payments
