Four new allegations have surfaced against renowned author Neil Gaiman, adding to the growing list of accusations of sexual assault made by multiple women. Vulture published a report Monday detailing the new claims, which join allegations previously reported in 2024. Gaiman, the 64-year-old author best known for works like The Sandman, Good Omens, American Gods, and Coraline, is facing serious accusations that span several years.

The allegations were first highlighted in a six-part podcast series titled Master: The Allegations Against Neil Gaiman, released by U.K. media outlet Tortoise in the summer of 2024. This series initially uncovered five claims of sexual assault, and Vulture’s investigation has uncovered four additional allegations that appear to share similar details. The publication states it has reviewed texts, diary entries, emails, and police records to corroborate these claims.

The youngest of the alleged victims was 18 at the time of the incidents, though most were in their 20s when the alleged assaults occurred, while Gaiman was in his 40s or older. One of the claims dates back to 1986 when Gaiman was in his mid-20s, and involves a woman who alleges he forcibly kissed her. Some of the women involved were fans of Gaiman’s work, while others were colleagues.

In response to these allegations, Gaiman’s representatives have stated that the incidents in question were consensual, citing the context of BDSM practices (bondage, discipline/dominance, submission/sadism, and masochism). USA TODAY has reached out to Gaiman’s team for further comment.

Among the women speaking out, Scarlett Pavlovich shared her account of working as a nanny for Gaiman’s estranged second wife, Amanda Palmer, in 2022. Pavlovich claims Gaiman sexually assaulted her on his property, starting in a bathtub where he allegedly joined her uninvited, initiated a conversation, and then proceeded to assault her. She further describes multiple instances of non-consensual sexual acts, some of which left her in excruciating pain, as well as forced acts of humiliation. She says that Gaiman called her a “slave” during these incidents. Pavlovich reported the abuse to Palmer, who was reportedly shocked and suggested Gaiman seek therapy—though Gaiman never attended counseling, according to Vulture.

Another woman, identified only as Kendall, recounted an experience with Gaiman in 2012 when he allegedly forced himself onto her on a tour bus. Kendra Stout, who had a relationship with Gaiman starting in 2003, also recalled instances of physical abuse and forced sex, describing one incident in which Gaiman disregarded her wishes and subjected her to painful intercourse despite her suffering from a urinary tract infection.

Vulture also spoke to friends of Palmer, who said that Gaiman and Palmer had an open relationship. One of these women, pseudonymously named Rachel, claimed that her experiences with Gaiman were fraught with demands that often frightened her or caused her harm. Gaiman and Palmer’s divorce in 2022 has been linked to some of these incidents, with reports suggesting that Palmer was aware of the allegations while still married to him.

As the allegations continue to surface, some of Gaiman’s projects have been put on hold. In September 2024, it was reported that Disney had paused its adaptation of Gaiman’s The Graveyard Book. In October, Amazon Prime Video confirmed that the third season of Good Omens would be canceled in favor of a 90-minute TV movie, marking the end of the series instead of a full season.

Netflix has yet to comment on the future of its adaptation of The Sandman, which was preparing for its third season. USA TODAY has reached out to Disney and Netflix for more details regarding these developments.
