Pinsarella Food has voluntarily recalled a Pinsarella Roman Pizza product, which has been classified as a Class I recall by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The recall, issued on December 16, 2024, stems from the presence of undeclared wheat and soy, two of the most common food allergens.
The FDA’s Class I classification indicates that there is a high risk of serious health consequences or even death from exposure to the affected product. This type of recall is reserved for situations where there is a reasonable probability that the use or consumption of the product could cause harm.
Millions of Americans suffer from food allergies, with wheat and soy being among the nine major allergens, which also include milk, eggs, fish, sesame, tree nuts, shellfish, and peanuts. Reactions to these allergens can range from mild symptoms like hives, swelling, and stomach issues to more severe cases, including anaphylaxis, which can be life-threatening.

The recall involves 66 boxes of Pinsarella Roman Pizza, which were distributed to restaurants in California. These pizzas have a use-by date of December 9, 2025, and are identified under the recall number F-0402-2025. The products were recalled because they contain undeclared wheat and soy, which were not listed on the packaging, putting individuals with allergies to these ingredients at risk.
The FDA’s involvement in the recall underscores the importance of vigilance in food safety. In fact, the FDA has highlighted undeclared allergens as one of the most common causes of food recalls. According to a report from Civic Science, more than 80% of Americans express concern over food recalls, with nearly a third saying they are “very worried” about them.
Dr. Stefano Luccioli, a medical officer and allergy expert at the FDA, emphasized the risks for individuals with food allergies, noting that they must remain alert not only with packaged products but also when dining out or eating in social settings. Allergic reactions can range from mild symptoms to severe, life-threatening responses that require immediate medical attention.
