Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards has been racking up significant fines from the NBA, with his total for the season now reaching $285,000. The latest incident, a $50,000 fine, was imposed for “making obscene gestures toward a game official.”

The fine stemmed from a viral video that appeared to show Edwards flipping the middle finger twice while near the Timberwolves bench during Saturday’s game against the Memphis Grizzlies. A team staff member was seen intervening, grabbing Edwards’ arm to stop the gesture before patting him on the back as he walked toward the bench.

The gesture followed a technical foul assessed to Edwards as he celebrated a dunk by teammate Rudy Gobert from the bench.

This marks the fifth fine Edwards has received this season, with all of them related to behavioral issues. Three of the fines were issued in December alone.

  • December 2024: Edwards was fined $25,000 for using profanity during a postgame interview after a game against the Golden State Warriors.
  • Weeks Later: He was hit with a $75,000 fine for criticizing officiating using explicit language.
  • Dec. 27: Edwards incurred a $100,000 fine after cursing during a live interview on FanDuel Sports Network North following a game-winning shot against the Houston Rockets.

During that interview, Edwards candidly recounted the moment:
“I gotta go get it, s–t. Nickeil [Alexander-Walker] found me. He cut me off. I’m like, s–t, I’m going for the win. Like Gilbert Arenas said, ‘I don’t do overtime.’ So f–k it.”

In November, Edwards was fined $35,000 for another obscene gesture after being caught flipping the bird during a game.

Despite his on- and off-court controversies, Edwards continues to shine as a player. He has appeared in 38 games this season, averaging 25.4 points and 4.2 assists per game.

The fines, however, highlight the growing scrutiny on Edwards’ conduct as his career progresses. Whether the talented guard can channel his passion into his performance without crossing the line remains a key focus moving forward.
